[?] [2699] TTA files cannot receive tag metadata

I noticed that TTA files converted from WAV format are blocked from receiving tags when they are copied or written to them in Mp3tag. WAVs converted to FLACs do not have this problem of receiving metadata. Prior to AIMP Converter I have been using Tau Producer 1.1 for conversion to TTAs for years and never experienced such blockade problem. [And no, the TTA files are not created with Read Only attribute]

This issue is happening in AIMP 5.40.2694 x64 Portable and its newer version 2699 with Mp3tag v3.31a x64 Portable on Windows 10 Enterprise 20H2 x64 [10.0.19042]

I have just double checked the issue - and what is actually happening is this:

A TTA file created in AIMP Converter is able to receive text in e.g. the Title tag field in Mp3tag and I can save it - but the act of saving wipes the field clear in Mp3tag. The saved text is thus not visible in Mp3tag - but it is being displayed by the AIMP player and also by e.g. Winamp when such TTA is loaded to them. So my Mp3tag is unable to read the tag fields

I also just took a look at my choices in

Mp3tag > File > Options > Tags >

but I just do not see there anything in relation to TTA; except that I do have this format on the list of

And even if there is something more I could change in those options - then why is this happening only for TTA files created with AIMP Converter, while file created with Tau Producer do not have this tags issue nor any other file format created with AIMP Converter? In other words: this seems like it is the Mp3tag that is solely the culprit - but because for years I had zero issues when using combo of Tau Producer and Mp3tag thus this looks like it is the AIMP Converter that is making somewhat improper tag fields that Mp3tag is then unable to read / show

If necessary I could upload an example of such ill TTAs - a one with no metadata and its doppelganger with half-invisible tag data

AIMP converter produces TTA files with both APE and ID3 tags.
In Mp3tag, APE tags take priority even if they are empty, so if you only write ID3 tags, they will not be displayed.
You need to remove APE tags or write them along with ID3. See Mp3tag > File > Options > Tags > Mpeg

In Mp3tag, APE tags take priority even if they are empty, so if you only write ID3 tags, they will not be displayed.

the problem occurs for TTAs created with AIMP; but not for those coming out from Tau Producer, because I use the

Tau Producer > Options > Settings > File Tag Options > Copy Tags > Never

option. I always clear tags during conversion, because if something were to get copied wrong in whatever program, then I would probably not spot it - but a file stripped of all metadata is something that I will spot on easily. So unless I forget to manually copy tags in Mp3tag, then I just know that my tags are moved correctly between formats

And so: the lack of option for wiping of tags in AIMP Converter during conversion is an inconvenience for me - and as existence of this topic shows, it can also lead to avoidable issues


And coming back to my Mp3tg settings - if I switch to

the the issue disappears. So why does >>APE 2<< used for >>Mpeg<< fixes this, while >>APE 2<< used for >>Ape, Mpc...<< does not?


And also: alternatively I can keep my initial settings - but need to remember that from now I have to always use the option of

first before pasting in copied metadata, thus not relay on settings of my different audio converters. But then again: if this is true

then why do I have to use this >>Remove tag<< manual approach, if my Mp3tag explicitly uses the >>Remove<< options? Is not performing of

As for my unwillingness to use >>APE 2<< in >>Mpeg<<: this is because my current set of options is what I have been using for years and I will not risk changing them, so to not mess up my painstakingly tagged set of XXX XXX audio files, for which set I perform in Mp3tag my very own cleaning process consisting of dozens of Actions. I just fear that with all those special characters in made up by me tag fields something might get wiped for good - and I will not even know it until I discover months later that I am in a situation with irrecoverable data

Shockingly, yes. Enabled types in the "read" settings are not mixed, but displayed in priority order: APE > ID3v2 > ID3v1.

As for Mp3tag, please try the following settings:

File > Options > Tags > Mpeg > Read > APE > OFF

File > Options > Tags > Mpeg > Write > APEv2 > OFF

File > Options > Tags > Mpeg > Remove > ID3v1 > ON
File > Options > Tags > Mpeg > Remove > APE > ON
File > Options > Tags > Mpeg > Remove > ID3v2 > OFF

This way you can edit tags as usual and then manually remove unwanted types, as Mp3tag doesn't do that during the write operation. You won't risk losing your data.

AIMP writes all tags that supported by the format, but it duplicates the data in each of them. So, all tags will be in synchronized state.
