Keystrokes when main window is invisible

There are some keystrokes for prev/next/play/stop. When the main window is invisible and only the tray icon exists, 4-5 public versions ago i remember being able to rightclick on the tray icon, then press ESC to close the context menu and then press one of those keystrokes. It worked fine. Now it doesn't. Can we please have it back?
