ASIO playback question

What does it mean that the input is 44.1khz? Does that mean that even if I play a 192khz file, it gets downsampled?

Just out of curiosity... since ASIO isn't exclusive... what happens during 192khz playback when the Windows PC decides to play a system sound, which I guess is 44.1khz?  A technical question which has nothing to do with AIMP, I guess.
