I agree about spectrum.
Most decent custom ROM have included Pulse which displays in navigation bar.

But I would like to see waveforms:

I believe that as long as you default to openSL playback issues will arise:

For reference, OpenSL is known to be unreliable for music playback on many devices and cannot be enabled by default, but it may help if the default output mode (Android AudioTrack) is behaving incorrectly - at least it avoids piping all your sound thru Java code.

Which is the case with many users complaining about stutters and crackles when using aimp( as bass library uses openSL by default)

One possibilty would be to test AudioTrack through BassLibrary:

If it works, then there could be a switch in Settings/Sound Engine
To choose OpenSL or AudioTrack, (of course, code needs to be modified with flag for either one)

Seems to be much better.
Now maybe once in while there is a tick sound, or maybe I am paranoid after all this time and hearing things.

So far, over all playback much better.

Crackle issue will remain until bass library fixed. Are they able to reproduce crackles? If not, then issue will never be fixed.

As of now it does not seem Ian is working on issue. And it also affects not only android.
It might be OpenSL audio output issues on certain devices.

Maybe analyze how this is done, I believe using ffmpeg if not mistaken.(using jadx - code looks simple to understand)
Which brings up alternatives to bass:
Foobar2000|ffmpeg and vlc both handle most files.
Currently best alternatives to bass without audio playBack issues like crackles and stutters

Latest version still has crackles on my end.

Проблема не в Андроиде, у меня был и 6, и 7, сейчас стоит 7.1. и проблем нет. Проблема ровно в прошивке конкретного производителя, а может быть - в железе.

But, the problem is crackles only happens with BASS library.
Audio players not using library do not have issue.
Also using vlc with OpenSL does not create crackles, which should mean not a hw issue

On build 334, crackles still appear on my device. I believe it is mainly associated with Bass library causing conflict, as players without bass sound better.

The latest versions have a problem, when you click pause in notification there is a slight stutter/noise.
This might also happen when aimp loses audio focus due to other media playing.

When playing from speakers crackles do not seem to appear, once or twice sound gets clipped - disappears so music heard like skips fraction of second forward.

With headphones crackles appear, especially when using other apps at same time.

С октября 2016 по текущую дату периодически случаются эффекты треска, будто плёнку зажувало. Формат файлов не важен, расположение файлов тоже. Радио работает отлично. Другие плееры работают нормально... но хочется AIMP

As mentioned in the post above your post: BASS library is at fault.
The developers of BASS library do not seem to know why.
I am now on 7.1.1 and still crackling occurs, especially when using another app like browser while listening to music.
Unacceptable, but the only way to fix it would be to have playback engine like plugin, with the ability to select which playback engine you want: BASS, libVLC, EXOplayer

It would be great to have a choice which engine to use:

Похоже, разработчики библиотеки BASS не знают почему.

It impossible.

BASS's playback (eg. BASS_ChannelPlay) uses OpenSL ES output, but you can also use AudioTrack output with a "decoding channel" (see BASS_STREAM_DECODE). Here are a couple of posts that include some example code for using AudioTrack output:
