Ive had good experience with Windows 8 and have been testing the new 8,1. Aimp works flawlessly on it. I find Windows 8 boots faster than 7 and has general overall slightly better performance.

Please be mindful of the way Winamp ended up and dont get too bloated. That is the reason why I switched to Aimp.

I haven't used Winamp for years after switching to Aimp but I can see the need for winamp plugin support since there are so many of them. A broad as possible support for them should be maintained.
