Correct.

I am, at least at the moment, unable to reproduce any of this issues I saw before. Previously, I could easily & repeatably reproduce the problem in under a minute.

I ended up contacting Samsung.

They asked if I was using Samsung Music, I said no, and they said it was the app's fault. I didn't want to go down that route, so I installed Samsung Music.

It worked. I could not reproduce the problem .... and then I noticed that every app I tried worked.

I rebooted. I tried again, every app was still working. So I uninstalled Samsung Music .... and suddenly every app I tried exhibited the same problem: no song/artist updates on advance.

I reinstalled Samsung Music. I did not open it ... and suddenly every app I tried worked.

I just tried VLC. I didn't try it before because it doesn't support CUE files, but I just realized if I pointed it at a network stream that provided metadata, I might be able to reproduce the issue: it did the exact some thing.

I'll try Android support. Thanks for looking into this.

Although I did this previously, I tested again using v3.30.1250 on my wife's phone (older, stuck at Android 9) with the same laptop and the same mp3/cue files, and I'm unable to reproduce the problem. It's definitely not the laptop.

Same testing procedure as before. I did it twice and got the same result each time.

Attached is the debug output. I connected to bluetooth on my laptop and began playing music. The meta data was sent to the laptop and was displayed. When I went to the next song, the meta data would update. I then disconnected bluetooth, enabled logging, and reconnected bluetooth. The meta data was NOT sent to the laptop. I advanced through the play  list twice, for 3 songs total, and my laptop never displayed updated meta data. I can duplicate the exact same behavior in my car.

Playing MP3 files with associated CUE files connected to bluetooth host. When first connecting, the artist/song data is sent, but when advancing to the next song in the playlist, it updates in the AIMP interface, but not on the bluetooth host. Stopping & starting playback doesn't fix it. Disconnecting & reconnecting bluetooth doesn't fix it. Used to work in v3. I verified it with multiple laptops and my car: they all see the same symptom.

Update: I also verified this bug exists with manually created playlists from MP3s on the device, and is unrelated to CUE files.

Update: I tried switching AVRCP versions, and at first I thought going from the default 1.5 to 1.4  resolved the issue, but it quickly returned.

Any chance you have working guidance on how to do that?

I converted the CUE file to this format:

And also ffmpeg's dedicated format:

In both cases, ffmpeg parsed and printed the playlist, and output a new MP3 without errors. I could see that the data was embedded in the MP3, but it didn't show up when loading in either VLC or AIMP

Thank you for your patience, that all makes sense now. I searched for CUE specific issues, and didn't turn up results for the bigger issue that you described.

Do you think it would be possible to work around this by using a helper app like Tasker using Intents?

Clicking on the MP3 file can be done in 2 clicks with one hand. The built-in dialog requires 2 hands: navigate to playlist, click on menu, click to clear playlist, click to confirm, click on menu, click to add file, click on file, click to confirm .... at least 8 clicks. My wife has arthritis, and her hands don't work for the first few hours of every morning. She can't do this.

I've granted access to the folder to AIMP. It used to work. Why did this change?

I have an MP3 file: CLASSIC-2023-03-20A.mp3, and a CUE file: CLASSIC-2023-03-20A.cue
The CUE file looks like this:

MP3 files are associated with AIMP, so I just click on the MP3 file and it opens in AIMP. It used to find the adjacent CUE file automatically, and populate the playlist.

Android 12, AIMP v3.30.1250

I used to be able to open an MP3 file containing many songs, a CUE file with the same name would be loaded, the playlist would be populated with all the song names, and I could navigate through the songs.

That no longer works. Now it's just a big MP3 file with no metadata, and no ability to navigate between songs.

I don't have auto-update enabled, and I don't know what version I was running before. It could be from last year.
