Title: AIMP should automatically save the player status to a file when the app is close
Post by: Rfx9123 on January 28, 2023, 15:49:00
How does AIMP save the current playback position in a playlist, the order of the created playlists in the selection window and all existing equalizer presets when exiting AIMP?
Could AIMP create a file with this information when exiting actively and use it to automatically restore the last state when it is started later?
Background is, AIMP keeps forgetting sporadically on my HiRes-player, I still have no clue what the trigger is, almost all EQ presets, the sort order of my playlists (e.g. 1st 80s disco, 2nd internet radio, 3rd pop and rock, ... ) and shuffle yes/no.
The existing backup function is a safeguard in the event of an emergency or when setting up a new system, but it only reflects and restores the status at the time of the backup.

App save all state on exit and each 10 minutes. First, app stores all data to temporary file, if operation succeeded, the app replace main config file with new one

Could AIMP create a file with this information when exiting actively and use it to automatically restore the last state when it is started later?

Yes, it already does

Those could be the key clues. I'll just wait a few more seconds before closing AIMP, then turn off the device again after a few seconds. I'll watch it and report back. Thanks.

This save doesn't seem to work properly. I stop playback, wait about 3 seconds, collapse the AIMP window (tap the small square), wait another 3 seconds, then close the app window (tap the cross).
Then I wait another three seconds before shutting down the device (to save energy). Yesterday the EQ settings were set to zero but all the settings were still there. Today then almost all EQ settings were gone (as I had already posted in my bug thread) and had to restore them from a backup.

Refer to the "About" dialog of the app, and check the "enable logging" option. Restart the app. Now, reproduce an issue and send the log file to me. Please, report to me a approximate time when issue was happened.

Today it happened again that my sorting of the different playlists was gone and the random play was deactivated. I had already posted about this topic in the bug thread (https://www.aimp.ru/forum/index.php?topic=69343.msg427932#msg427932).
Here is today's Debug.log, the error occurred at 4:15 p.m. after starting my DX160 and then starting AIMP.
Be not surprised, that I'm still with version AIMP3.30.1241, but here the music sounds more accented and spatial (free), for my feeling, than with version AIMP3.30.1246.

As I can see, app's files has been corrupted (player raises with "unexpected end of file" error on attempt to load settings). I suggest you to check your sdcard for errors

Thanks for the hint. I checked the SD card on the PC with automatic repair and put it back in the player. I keep watching. I wish the team a nice weekend.

Hello Artem, I've tested a few things over the last few weeks.
The first thing I did was check the SD card for errors and have it automatically repaired. Then all files except the music are deleted and the playlists are recreated on the PC with the PC software "MP3Tag" and copied to the SD card. The last thing I did was reset my player completely, i.e. uploaded the original firmware image from the manufacturer and updated it to the latest firmware. I had uninstalled apps such as Google Playstore or the unneeded Chinese offers right at the beginning, or deactivated them where that was not possible. The only remaining app, Mango Player, cannot be disabled. Now for audio there is only AIMP on the device. After stopping the music in AIMP, I deliberately wait about 5 seconds before exiting the app. Then I wait another 5 seconds before completely shutting down the device. Nevertheless, it happens again that the order of the playlist favorites is reversed after a restart. Is there a way to check that AIMP saved the player state when exiting, or how do I know that the save has completed successfully?

Please, can you share app log to me?

After the error message on the SD card, I went one step further and bought a new card for my player. I started using it three days ago and have been running the log function ever since. So far I have not been able to observe the described behavior again. I still actively wait the few seconds between stopping playback, closing the AIMP app, and shutting down. If the problem still occurs, it could be a longer log file. ;)

I think the problem is solved here. Since the SD card was replaced, the reported errors no longer occurred. I wish everyone a nice weekend.
