Hello,
When I pause playback and leave AIMP in the background (this is what I think happens), when I return to playback, the paused song starts from the beginning rather than from where it was paused.
I have automatic bookmarking in the settings.
I am using Android 11.
What setting should I change in AIMP or Android to be able to go back to listening where I paused?

I already wrote about the same thing some time ago, I just remembered - but I didn't find a solution, it just sort of "fixed" itself
I think I've checked all the settings in Android, but I guess A11 is aggressive about killing left behind processes and I don't know how to deal with it.

It related to start playback on headset connection. Please, download build 1195 (it was published by Google today). In it, I have fixed one bookmark storing issue. I hope that this is root of issue in your case.

It's still the same; I'm sure it's on the system side and not your app - if I can locate the problem, I'll share it.
I'm using a custom ROM - crDroid 7.16 - and I can't seem to get it to not kill AIMP for me.
I also noticed that when returning to the program, I would see the correctly set song progress for a split second, which would almost immediately reset to the beginning.

as I see in log, player receives stop command from the system ui component. It lead to reset bookmark. Can you explain what actions you did before issue was happened?

If I understand what you are asking correctly:
I pause the listening (either by pressing pause on the player or by pressing the button on the BT headphones), on the phone I return to the main screen by pressing Home and put the phone down, launch another app or answer a call.

My version of crdroid is no longer maintained, so maybe there is a bug in battery optimization. I checked all the settings about battery and app and nothing.
If i will have more time i will flash new ROM and then i will see if something changes

I have this version, meanwhile installed crdroid 8.4 (a12) - nothing has changed. Still AIMP restarts the mp3 instead of going back to the auto-bookmark (created I think when pause was pressed). I am writing for information only, because your application is not an audiobook reader, but a (great) music player, so I won't go into it further and take your time. Thanks for your commitment.

After installing the new system I haven't had much time to listen to myself yet I noticed that a tab appeared in the only song I was listening to and it works.

At the moment I have crDroid 8.4 and bookmarks work (that is, my problem is solved), I use the version you have provided. For a moment I wondered if the problem was related to Bluetooth headphones in some way, but so far I haven't noticed a noticeable connection.
Right now I can pause the playback, select another file, listen to something else, pause the listening, and go back to where I left off! It works both ways. Success!

I wish I knew what the cause was, as there is no noticeable solution, other than to say: "it already works".

I noticed something else - just reporting, maybe this information will be useful, because it doesn't bother me so much:
When I switch (while listening, last time I did it by mistake) to the next song, when I return to the one with the bookmark (because it is created I think) this playback starts from zero. But if I switch again and select the one with the bookmark - it starts from the place with the bookmark :)
Are there skins that have bigger control buttons? I listen a lot while driving, the phone is in the holder and I have to aim well to switch to the next song. The album cover is not important to me, the control is more important.
I hope I'm not too annoying, but your app suits me very well :)

Bookmark is catched only when you start the track by tap on it in playlist.

You can increase UI scaling factor in app settings.

Are you using phone for that, or you have installed AIMP to your Car PC?

I don't use Android auto, I play directly on my phone. UI scaling doesn't quite work, I've already tried it.

In v3.30, I planing to improve UI for CarPC layout. That's why I asked you about CarPC.But, as I can see now, its not your case. CarPC layout is available for landscape orientation only. Anyway, if you want to test new UI let me know.
