Title: [?] [2338] Scheduler is greyed, not usable suddenly
Post by: Orator on October 28, 2021, 23:17:00
Since the last update yesterday I was able to use scheduler once, set sleep timer and alarm like before no issues, but today the clock button at right upper corner is greyed and does not respond to mouse clicks nor hotkey pressing. What would block scheduler just like that? Also Radio Capture is greyed, but I'm also not listening to internet radio currently. This AIMP Version is 5.00 build 2338 from portableapps.com, OS is Windows 10 64-bit.

Is there a reason you downloaded from PortableApps.com instead of using the AIMP installer's built-in option to do a Portable install?  When you start the installer, you will be given the option to choose Portable.  No files are placed outside the chosen folder and no registry entries are made. And then you know you are using the official AIMP right from the website.

Why, is there something suspicious or not legit about portableapps.com? I've been using it as my general portable apps hub for at least a decade or so to keep them apps updated automatically and within an easily accessible floating window menu. During the years there have been very little problems with that arrangement, in rare cases programs have ceased to be supported via their platform or there have been delays in updates, but nothing much serious.

Would you think that using portableapps.com release would be the sole reason for scheduler dysfunction? Isn't .paf just a wrapper that uses whatever the official release of the program is? I haven't met or heard of any misuse of that particular platform that would have mangled apps or their parts since they should be checked and tested before getting distributed (mainly the platform doesn't rely on random anonymous internet user contributions, which would be a huge risk for plenty of misuse). Only thing is that if the app released itself is buggy, then you have to roll back to the previous working version yourself from backups or whatever and defer updates manually, if necessary.

I will next test install the newest AIMP from other sources to see how that works out the scheduler wise.

So far tested: first I got the latest without installer version from AIMP site, put it on its own folder to a harddrive and it shows clean when started, no adoption of any previous settings and scheduler is accessible. Next I installed the normal, registering .exe version, which would adopt all the settings from the portableapps.com version, including library and the dysfunctional UI features aka no scheduler access.

Seems to me, that the UI settings have gotten mangled somehow after the update, but which line to delete or alter in which .ini file is beyond my recognition. Maybe someone knows better which .ini affects the UI features so that it might be the reason for not working access to the scheduler? Switching back and forth with the new Charm and older Bliss 4K skins didn't make any difference at least (I prefer Bliss 4K anyway).

Scheduler may inaccessible if plugin is not installed or disabled. Refer to app settings \ plugins and check state of the Scheduler plugin

Made a "dirty fusion" to see what happens and took the AIMP without installer version's files as they were in the zip and copied them straight over the portableapps.com AIMP App subfolder and when starting AIMP get this message now:

"Plugin Manager

Plugin "aimp_scheduler.dll" raised exception and will be automatically unloaded. We do not recommend you using this version of the plugin for stability reasons!"

Re-install from fresh downloaded most recent .paf.exe didn't revive the scheduler either. I still claim it's old settings somehow that causes incompatiblity with the new scheduler, but which line in which .ini file, I have no idea.

Fresh setup from zip downloaded from AIMP site works, but then there's the trouble of setting up all the things that I have done over the time.

I wish there was a way to repair just the scheduler issue and keep rest of the settings as they are.

Настройки portableapps.com

Thank you ss.pl, your response helped me a lot in moving forward with this issue! Suddenly the scheduler issue "infected" even the fresh portable version downloaded from AIMP, so I didn't have much choices left.

I realized the only older AIMP data that I really cared about was/is my carefully over the time crafted many and long playlists so I saved them, removed all previous AIMP program versions, normally installed and portables, then put fresh portable version from AIMP site in its own folder again and copied saved playlists there under PLS, problem solved, life goes on. Took a few moments to go through the settings important for me, but I think it was just a good recap for rehearsal and purge of plugins and settings that were there without purpose.

I don't know what it is exactly, but portableapps.com does seem to allow its portables some semi-integration to Windows system at least via user AppData Roaming or such folders for settings and that can mix the programs up as it seems that Windows is also very keen on integrating folders that have its naming and structure even when they are not in Windows' expected initial drive paths, like portableapps.com portables' folder structure to some level imitates the Windows one (my theory, at least). It's a nice platform and portable apps hub, but perhaps a little under developed or maintained for todays standards when Windows is what it is.

Fortunately portableapps.com launcher pad is able to integrate to it any odd portable program that's under the portableapps.com initial programs folder to keep things organized, just refresh the icons and hide the ones you don't care to see. I have had few other stand alone, rare utility programs located there like that for long and obviously AIMP now goes to that category too. If programs are not originated from portableapps.com's own appstore, apps updates are left for the programs internal updater or user's own responsibility, but with AIMP there should be no problem in that.

Thanks everyone, AIMP is the music player of choice for Windows!

:)
Do periodically backup profile folder, and you will always be satisfied with yourself and player.
When updating, Aimp creates a backup of itself (entire directory of the previous version) there is also added, the user data folder.
So you can always come back if something goes wrong.

PortableApps, was good (for me) in the days of Windows XP.

Oh well, no luck this time either, after all!  :-\

Again it happens, yesterday the all new fresh AIMP portable version worked at first, like it also worked when updated from portableapps.com, but just for one time, one night and then next day after once quitting and restarting the program, there's the message about scheduler plugin raising exception and unloading of it, the scheduler inaccessible. This is starting to seem quite odd to be fair. There clearly seems to be some bug in AIMP and its scheduler functionality using the older simple mode and it's not to blame the portableapps.com version anymore IMO.

I've switched the scheduler each time when using it  in AIMP 5 to the old or simple mode. Is it possible that the simple mode and the new scheduler are causing this somehow? I will test that at some point when have time, but if others could see also if they have any such issues using the scheduler of AIMP 5 and turning it into the simple mode, please? Or how could the source of this issue be traced with some degree of certainty?

Started all over again from fresh AIMP 5 portable files for the fifth time. Did set everything up for me except the scheduler, exit program, restart, exit again, restart, everything is fine. Next time after restart set scheduler in advanced mode for fairly simple repeated daily sleep timer and week days repeated wake up (got a few nags about "bad tokens" for having set past date for the timers start time - why does it matter which date it's set to start, when it's repeated for the future anyway?) and exit AIMP. Drumroll... Restart the program and BAM, aimp_scheduler.dll raised exception, automatically unloaded, etc. etc. Set scheduler up once, exit AIMP and then restart it, no scheduler anymore, works once maybe straight after the setup before the first exit, then - inaccessible.

Tell me it's no bug? I have no time for testing the installed version at this time, but I'd be surprised if it acted any different than the portable, only thing to be blamed seems to be the scheduler functionality of AIMP 5 being buggy. Or someone prove me this is something else (and show how to fix it).

AIMP has been a rare music player for Windows with this functionality and personally have been using it for this year realizing going to sleep was nicer with smooth music playing for a limited time and again waking up to another playlist with slightly different mood - but now it's bombing.  :(
