Title: Custom Multi-Channel Remapping for 7 Channels
Post by: 2nd.Identity on October 12, 2021, 19:44:50
Hi all, is there a way I can remap 7 channels to stereo (basically 6.1 channels to stereo)?
I am using the desktop version v4.70 build 2254.

I have tried "Allow channels mixing - Channels remapping" but could not find any working template for 7 channels.
I have tried all the templates from "mono to stereo", "stereo to stereo", "quad to stereo", "5.1 to stereo" and "7.1 to stereo", and it does not seem to affect the sound.

Appreciate any answers. Thanks!

Source file is 6.1? What is format used for?

6.1 is (now mostly "was") a technology transition between 5.1 and 7.1 that included only one rear channel instead of two discrete ones like 7.1.  There are still DVDs encoded with it, and some receivers that can play it.

Thank you Artem and sveakul for your replies.
The file I am playing is FLAC (encoded from WAV, if this helps).
I have attached a screenshot from MediaInfo showing the channels - L, R, C, LFE, C (back), L (side) and R (side).
I agree with sveakul that 6.1 may be a less common channel configuration, but would still be helpful to be able to custom remap the channels to the proper channels in stereo.

Hi, 2nd.Identity.
Is the player mixing the channels wrong somehow?
I can not understand what you are trying to get with the aimp mixer. Can I get a file to explore?
you can upload here (https://mega.nz/megadrop/V8o6-KR4oJc)

Hi ss.pl, thank you for looking into my query.

I have uploaded two files to the link you provided.
Both files are extracted from the same source.

a) 10. Be Yourself_full.flac:
This file has all 7 channels active.

b) 10. Be Yourself_isolate.flac
This file rotates through all the channels with only 1 channel active at a time and other channels muted.
Using this file I can hear that the mixing is correctly assigning Ch1 to left, Ch2 to right and Ch3 to left + right.
However, it is wrongly assigning Ch4 (LFE) to left and Ch5 (Center back) to right.
Ch6 and Ch7 seems to be correctly assigned to left and right respectively.

Furthermore, the custom remapping also offers volume adjustment for different channels which is a very powerful function.
The auto mixing seems to be soft to my liking, assuming it defaults to 25% - 50%.
I hope we can use custom remapping on 6.1 files too

Let's wait to see what the developer has to say.
2nd.Identity thank you, I'll be testing.

Thank you all for adding mixing for 7 channels in the latest update v5.00 build 2342.
It is working flawlessly for my purpose.
Cheers!
