Title: Why do I always get TWO "local files" columns?
Post by: eobet on January 24, 2021, 22:59:11
If I delete my profile and start from scratch (using the portable version of AIMP), there's a "local files" playlist in the left column, and a "default" playlist in the right column...

However, the moment I play a song, a new "local files" playlist appears in the right column!

Even if I close it, it always comes back!

Why is this? I don't want two "local files" playlists!

Local Files is not a playlist, is data provider of the Music Library. You cannot play files without adding it to playlist. So, when you start the playback from music library, player imports the data to automatically created playlist and starts playing it.

So why aren't files I play from the first Local Files column added to the Default playlist instead? That column is already there when you first start AIMP and it remains empty.

As a user, it is just confusing to get two Local Files columns, and annoying to always have to close one of them.

If I add all songs to playlists, and only play them from playlists, I hope the second column never appears, but it is unfortunately not a good experience out of the box.

I definitely agree with eobet.  I just started using AIMP last week and I do not find the user interface very intuitive at all.  Very confusing.

I just saw the 5.0 update and are you still really forced to use two columns even in this major re-themed release?

I really hope I'm missing something simple that enables me to hide the "local files" column and just view all my playlists...

You don't need to skroll the playlists. Just click on the >> in the right top of the player and choose the playlist you need from the drop down list.

If you don't need a Music library, just switch it off.
