Title: How too handle too many albums in the library?
Post by: Biff on November 16, 2020, 08:03:04
From a certain number of albums added to Aimp, to its Library, Aimp does not run properly anymore, it is sluggish, slow, does not response (the GUI fades out / greys out for 10, 20 seconds or longer all the time and a message is shown "Program does not response"), etc. So I cannot use the library.

Is there a way to somehow handle that so I could use the library though? To add all of my albums / music folders?

I'm dealing with the same problem long time already.. since I haven't got any solution from the developing team this is what I came up with:
When I'm updating the music library I have to leave the player doing just scanning since it is almost impossible to listen to music while it scans.
Since I'm organizing my music mostly by the rating I found it easiest this way.
I "detach" AudioLibrary file Local.adb which is located in: c:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Roaming\AIMP\AudioLibrary\ by simply renaming it, therefore player won't read any information from the library, so I can listen to music normally without freezing nor crashes.. I rate songs by sending them to other lists 5 stars, 4,3.. etc
When I want to add the actual rating to those songs I rename the file Local.adb again and rate those songs and update the library again...
That's the only solution at the moment with the large libraries .. :(

Latest update does not solve the issue? I have improved performance of music library in it.

Thank you. Unfortunately it sounds quite inconvenient. And besides of that I assume, it would not work here as the player freezes / fades out / gets inaccessible ("No response") only by playing tracks having a big(ger) data base / Local.adb.

And when I add a rating the player gets inaccessible ("No response") / fades out for some longer time or crahes as well.

It is even much worse here, only obvioulsy about 190.000 tracks / files added to the library in 9, 10 hours:

And Aimp uses up to 30 % of the CPU and it causes dropouts when playing while reading. And it slows down the computer. So it is not usable here.

I assume, there is no way I could speed that up?

I'm wondering if an antivirus app may be intercepting every add/scan operation into the library and causing this slowdown.  You could try adding the whole AIMP folder as well as your music folders to the "white list" of any antivirus application you may be using, and see if that speeds things up.

Yes, a good point.

Before the last update Aimp scanned the tracks / files faster.

I just truned off Defender for some time, no acceleration I could see of the scan with Defender switched off during the scan. No speed changes there after turning it on again.

It impossible...

Yes, and yet it is like that.

Now Aimp crashed (or whatever happened) after about 10, 11 hours of adding tracks to the library, respectively a part of it, the player stopped playing and is gone now and that part of Aimp obviously is still showing / working in TM:

So I closed that process with TM to be able to start Aimp again to play music. It appears the scanned files are kept in the library.

With about 200.000 tracks / files in the lib I have the same problems like I had before:

Aimp all the time temporarilly fades out / does not response ("No response") / is not accessible, above all when a new track starts playing after the last one.

What is J drive? Is it removable or remote drive? Is it HDD or SSD?

It is SSD.

It is SSD.

Is it a networked drive (locally or remote), or is it physically installed in your PC?

It is in my computer.

Same over here.. :( I didn't notice improvements regarding ML performance...It's still laggy...
I'm aware that my library is too big... I'm a music collector and I'm not using player only for listening but also for organizing.
I have around 420 000 files at the moment, Local.adb is around 190 Mb.. I have 1 local and 1 external hard drive attached.
I have tried everything to speed up things.. reducing the number of the files in lists, reducing numbers of the list.. plugin out external drive.. nothing showed results, just this method I've mentioned above... and when I do so player runs smoothly... no matter where are the files stored and how many of them are in the playlist...
Don't want to sound negative, you guys did an amazing job with this player.. I just assume that there are not so many people with large libraries .. so you might not be aware of this problem... just want to support and help with my feedback if it's possible.. cheers

No no, I absolutely would not assume this but the opposite, there must be many having huge albums / libraries. If you look around in music forums alone, you would notice that, really unbelievably extrem big collections. I assume, I have about 200.000 to 400.000 albums or even more on different drives but it appears to be impossible to add them to a music library so I use catalog programs to list the albumes / tracks, etc. The scan of Aimp I mentioned here yesterday or before became so slow after about 200.000 tracks / files (not albums) that it added a single track per second only to the lib and later crashed (or whatever it was).

So I would be happy to just get the albums on my drive always running / connected added to the library.
