Title: Re-order shuffle queue?
Post by: LucidBrot on August 15, 2020, 13:24:54
I have set up AIMP for Windows just now, migrating away from the discontinued Google Play Music and I really like it. Especially all the customization options and that the global keyboard shortcuts. One thing that I have not yet figured out how to do remains, though:

In google play music, when I play a playlist it will be copied to a "queue". When I play it shuffled, the queue changes its order and if I want to change the order I can modify that queue without affecting the original playlist. I can also add multiple playlists to the queue and then shuffle.

Is there such a queue in AIMP? How can I access it? I would really like to be able to

1. Listen to multiple playlists joined together, then shuffled
2. Change the playback order of a random shuffle

Also, since this somewhat belongs together: Does AIMP automatically update its playlists when the imported m3u playlist files are modified? I synchronize them between devices.

LucidBrot,

Hello and welcome to the forum!

You can access the queue and its options in AIMP with Ctrl + Q keys. ;)

Best regards!

Thank you very much, ᏦᏁᎢᎵᏫ

I'm still a bit confused though. I can reorder the queue when it contains content, but it only contains content when I specifically "Queue" something. Let's say I would like to queue all songs of a playlist, in randomized order. How would I go about that?

When I open the playlist and start a song, with shuffle enabled, the playing will be random but the queue manager will show an empty queue. When I add all songs of the Playlist to the queue by doing CTRL+A followed by Q, I will have a full queue but it will be in the order of the playlist, not shuffled.

In AIMP you're supposed to use playlists as your queue.
Send all the files you wanna play to a new playlist (right click > send to other playlist), open it, open sorting menu and click randomize (Shift+U). After that, reorder tracks to your liking and play them with shuffle mode off.

Thank you, gr-e
I have just tried it, and it seems like Shift + U does not make changes to the Playlist's m3u file - so that is definitely a useable workflow for me! It's really cool how quick I got help here  :)

I'm not sure if this follow-up question should be in a new thread, but trying this out made me notice that changes I make in AIMP do not get reflected in the playlist files I originally imported - I guess AIMP uses some internal database for "Add Song to Playlist" and such. Is there an easy way to have AIMP write the changes back to the m3u files (when I modify them, or at least when I close AIMP) and read the files again when I open AIMP?

My goal is to use AIMP on my computer and synchronize the music and playlist files to my other devices - and each device might modify the playlists.

You can manually export the playlist by pressing ctrl+s. Dunno if you can automate this process as I don't really use playlists
