Title: Audio Converter - Stereo to 5.1
Post by: Rene on April 20, 2019, 00:58:03
I have a couple of questions on this utility.
1. What algorithm does it use to convert the 2 channel sound to 5.1?  The .1 I assume is based on frequency but what about the 5 other channels.  How does it decide to encode sound to any channel other than the front 2 (stereo)?
2. Under Options/converter/transform options/ tracker Music on the converter utility what do the different option do? (Ramping:off/normal/sensitive, Surround: off/mode 1/mode 2, Playback mode: Normal/FT2/PT1?

My objective is to improve the sound in my new car which came with a premium 5.1 channel system but no options for controlling the algorithm used for playback.  On my home receiver I can choose from straight stereo or Dolby movie/music, or DTS/music and others.  My car system does not offer any choices and I find that it tends to push too much of the music through the center channel in my car so it sounds like the music is coming from the windshield (directional).

Thanks

1. It depended from app settings (refer to the Options \ Converter \ Transform). If the "Allow channels mixing" is switched on, back left and back right channels will be same as front left / right, center - based on middle betwen front left and front right channels. In v4.60 beta, we have implement an ability to customize mixing matrix.

2. This options are related to tracker music (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Module_file) only.

Thanks Artem.  I'll try 4.60 beta.
