Title: Add basic video playing features to AIMP
Post by: AXK on July 16, 2018, 00:53:12
The only major thing that AIMP lacks right now is the ability to play video files - at least mp4, mkv and avi. I'm currently switching between AIMP and PotPlayer because the latter plays pretty much everything, though it lacks the elegance of AIMP. Otherwise they're both amazing.

I've looked for plugins to play video in Aimp but can't find any. I really hope some basic video playing features will be considered for the future. Thanks.

AIMP is audio player and unable to play video files even with plugins. We have no plans to make video player, I suggest you to try to use VLC player.

AIMP should remain a lightweight music player. VLC is an excellent media player which you can use for video playback.

VLC is ok, but far from excellent. Aimp can be lightweight while still playing basic video files. I'll just stick with PotPlayer then, thanks.

PotPlayer is video player by default

Amen to that!  I hate the trend of "do everything in one", because trying to be all things to all people seems always to end up in compromised everything.  Instead do one thing, with EXCELLENCE, as AIMP does with audio files.

My vote for best VIDEO player would be MPC-BE.  PotPlayer has too many half-defined, overly layered options, VLC can't use MadVR renderer.

Have you tried mpv?

Hi Xwansu: yes, I have used it with the SMPlayer GUI.  MPV is very good but requires using a lot of command-line options to get the best out of it, and I prefer using the MadVR renderer which MPV, like VLC, does not support.  MPC-BE with MadVR and LAV filters is my "Video AIMP"  :)

Hello! New around here.

What about playing only the audio of video files? Would that be possible? It would be great to skip the step of extracting this audio by ourselves. Let's say we have a video clip we want to hear only.

Thanks for your time  :)

That is what I'm looking for!
I have several .ts or .mp4 file related to ASMR recording on onedrive.
And usually I just want to listen, but maybe I will watch video later, so I want to keep it origin format.
I have try several times that .ts cannot be play, and .mp4 sometimes it work but other not.

Although onedrive can play the .ts,.mp4 online, but it just play one file and cannot play the whole foler or make playlist.
And I'm not sure if there is other player can play cloud file and youtube link.
AIMP is currently the closest player to my needs.
