Title: Library location
Post by: nutcracker on February 08, 2016, 13:07:50
How can I change the default library location? I don't want the library to take up space on my SSD drive C, instead I would like to have it on an external drive.

You can install in portable version to another disk. AIMP settings has been include in AIMP folder.

I mean ONLY the library (I believe now it's in C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\AIMP\AudioLibrary). AIMP, as a program, is already installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\AIMP - if I install it on a USB drive where the library will be located and under what name?
Thanks!

it's impossible

If the C drive has NTFS file system you can try to use hard or symlinks

OK! The problem can be bypassed somehow (USB installation, localdb etc.) but it is far from perfect. The file explorer dedicated menu isn't there and, as expected, the integration is not optimal. Since the library can be big and SSDs are being used more and more as primary System drives (C:), I believe - in some next version - you should introduce the choice of a separate location for the library. I, personally, use one SSD drive for the system, and a second HDD for the data. For saving storage space & easy backup purposes I instruct every newly installed software to store its database on the second HDD. So, I'm going back to the 'normal' installation, without the database!
Thanks, anyway!

PS I maybe managed to achieve what I wanted by using hardlinks as Artem instructed, but I have to check thoroughly if that works and, anyway, my suggestion about different library location still stands!
