Title: Creating playlist on Android 12 phone
Post by: Slateybear on May 31, 2024, 01:21:41
Have seen the below problem referenced elsewhere here, but can't find it now.
Had AIMP working fine on my TCL20-5G -Android 11 phone last year, but problems had me having to do a couple of factory resets. Problems now sorted but OS has been updated to Android 12, and I cannot get AIMP to work. I have some 3200 music files I wish to transfer to the phone. Using either the Android Music player app, or transferring to phone on micro SD card, all files are there but neither the Android player or AIMP can access more than 600 - 700 files to create the playlist. I am not interested in using the Android player, so will stick to the AIMP problems. All files are mp3. Have disabled the Android player so hopefully AIMP was not trying to access the files there.
Copied the music folder to the micro SD card, inserted it in the phone, started AIMP, created a playlist, but only some 720 files were populated - bits and pieces of most albums, but some albums not there at all. Got an Android message that AIMP could not access all folders - I granted full access but nothing changed. Took the card out, formatted it, put it back, AIMP could not find anything, so it was looking in the right place.
To try to get around the folder problem, I then put the music on the SD card as individual files, tried again with AIMP, but the same problems surfaced. AIMP did not directly create a playlist with individual files, but created its own folders that I had to select first, as previously. The playlist was then created but I received the same Android error message again, but this time I only had 647 files in the playlist.
Anyone have a solution to this? Is Android playing games here?
Without any user guide for newbies, very hard to understand this stuff. Could not find any "Select All" button for the folders, so had to check each one individually.
Regards,

Refer to the "About" dialog of the app, and check the "enable logging" option. Restart the app. Now, reproduce an issue and send the log file to me. Please, report to me a approximate time when issue was happened.

Going to show my tech ignorance here - much prefer fishing and surfing.
Found the enable logging check box ok. Tell me if this sequence is correct. SD card is currently blank but the 3159 files are in the Music folder in the onboard storage..
1 - Force stop of Android Music player - this should stop AIMP accessing those files.
2 - remove sd card, load music files, re-install,
3 - take shot of sd card properties.
4 - Start AIMP, enable data logging.
5 - Create playlist.
6 - take screenshot to confirm number of files in playlist.
7 - Find log files and copy to send to you.
This last bit I am not too sure about.
Regards,

Managed to get that done [assuming that the debug log is what you needed], surprised myself somewhat!
Files attached.
All Artists mp3 properties - folder on C drive. 3159 music files
SD properties - folder/files on SD card showing same properties as in C drive folder.
Playlist files - screenshot of playlist - only 989 files, but I guess we are improving from the previous 700 odd.
Debug log.

As I can see in log, you've selected the /storage/emulated/0/Music folder, but your SD-card was mounted to /storage/C499-EC37/.
So, player just scans different folder.

Showing my tech ignorance again - I don't understand much of that. I haven't physically selected any storage or knowingly mounted anything anywhere in particular, I just stick the SD card in.
So which is AIMP scanning? Both the Music folder and the SD card have 3159 files, the Android Music Player now has all of them in its playlist where previously it only had a bit under 700. I have removed the SD card and AIMP now cannot play any files because they are missing, so it was apparently scanning the SD card with its 3159 files, but still only finding 989. Does this have anything to do with hidden folders? I can't imagine it has if AIMP finds some tracks off an album and not the others, and AIMP has created the folders itself..
I have asked it to remove the missing files from the playlist, so now that is empty. I tried to re-populate the playlist, it brings up all the artists folders [which appear to be empty anyway], so I select all of them, using either Music [Local/Primary/Music] or Internal Shared Storage {Local/Primary], but nothing populates. The SD card option is no longer there.
So how do I get AIMP to scan the "Music" folder to see if it can find all the files?

OK, problem sorted but I can't understand how/why. Decided not to go with the SD card idea. Deleted all files from the Music folder and re-installed them three times, Android playlist finally showed all files but AIMP would still only find under 1000 for its playlist. Uninstalled and re-installed AIMP three times, and after the last re-install, AIMP managed to find all files for its playlist. Crazy!
