Title: Please consider providing user guide / manual / online help
Post by: jim_1001 on June 26, 2023, 12:27:10
I think a user guide / manual / online help would be a big improvement for AIMP (which is already excellent). I can see a lot of other users have said similar on the forums.

Such a lot of effort has already gone into creating the software (thank you!) that it really justifies explanation of all the many features. Some users may not be using using the software correctly or to its full potential due to lack of documentation which is a shame.

What features requires additional info to explain?

Artem - thanks for asking.

I’m fairly new to AIMP so there are probably many things I don’t know about.  An overview of how it works / what it does would be useful. Maybe how it differs from other music players. You could use screenshot(s) & label parts of the screen. At a  basic level there could be a pop-up explanation when hovering over or near buttons to explain what they do.

You could explain about playlists, how they relate to files & folders on the device & how to create & change playlists.

If you’ve been developing it then you will know the software inside out. The point is to explain it to new users & those with different levels of knowledge. Those who already know don’t need to read it. Once a user knows they may only need to return to the help occasionally to refresh their memory. Then they don’t have to figure it out from scratch every time they re-visit. I’m sure that is possible but it would be helpful to hear from the author on exactly how it’s intended to work.

Thanks!

I've implemented hints for a controls in AIMP4. Hold the finger on control to invoke a description hint

how they relate to files & folders on the device & how to create & change playlists

Oh... these so basic things... AIMP is old-school player, I hoped that people remember what playlists are... Here you will find explanation about that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playlist

Excellent! Thanks - definitely an improvement.

Well, that was only an example. That's what I mean though -  basic for you but not for someone newer school  ;) There's a first time for everyone. I understand writing documentation is a chore - done it myself. As a start you could maybe organise / categorize some of the many questions in the forums you've already answered, into an FAQ. You could also include links like you've just given here for playlists. Or better still, ask a volunteer to do it for you  ;-)  All good wishes.
